Apr. 1" circular datestamp at leftEXTREMELY FINE EXAMPLE OF THIS MAJOR CANCELLATION RARITY. ONLY THREE COMPLETE STRIKES OF THIS MARKING ARE KNOWN. ONE OF THE MOST ELABORATE FANCY CANCELLATIONS WE HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED.
Only one is known on a full cover (also a 3c War Dept. entire). Only the cover and this example shows the town datestamp. Acquired by Dr. Lobdell in our Sale 742 (May 12, 1992) and offered to the market for the first time in 18 years.
