Sale 1003, Lot 5067, Air Post and Flight Covers (Scott C1-C11, Byrd, Roessler)1927, June 27 -- Byrd Transatlantic Flight (AAMC 1060). Congressional corner card cover to Paris, France, with original enclosure, "Official Business-Free" crossed out and with two 10c Special Delivery (E12) affixed over the "M.C." part of free frank, stamps uncancelled and no postal markings as is often the case, endorsed "Via U.S. Trans-Atlantic Air Mail First Flight Commander Byrd Pilot 'America'" and signed R.E. Byrd on front and back, Very Fine, this is one of the few pieces of mail from the "America" to retain its stamp after the plane was forced to touch down off the coast of France, lot includes photograph of "America"
