Baltimore Md., 5c Black on Bluish (3X3). Position 3, full framelines at left and bottom, virtually complete at top, cancelled by four neat pen strokes with one just tying the stamp on Apr. 3, 1846 folded letter to New York, lightly struck red "Baltimore Md. Apr. 6" circular datestamp, matching "Paid" and "5" in circle, couple light file folds, one crease thru stampVERY FINE APPEARANCE. A CHOICE TIED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT BUCHANAN PROVISIONAL ON BLUISH PAPER -- ONLY THREE RECORDED WITH RED BALTIMORE DATESTAMP.
The Baltimore provisionals were printed first on bluish and then on white paper (the Scott catalogue reverses the chronological order). Most examples are known used with the blue Baltimore datestamp; three are known struck in red.
