Two multicolor advertising cards depicting elaborate scenes of medicine administration and women benefiting from hair vigor, both with minor toning on back, also 3c 1861 (65) tied by circle of wedges cancel on J.C. Ayer corner card cover, Lowell Mass. circular datestamp and addressed to Vt., Very Fine, wonderful collateral items
J. C. Ayer & Co., 1c Black, Ty. I, II, Imperforate (RS4b, RS4f, RS4i). First two full to large margins, last cut in, few light creases as normal, Fine-Very Fine
J. C. Ayer & Co., 4c Blue, Experimental Silk Paper, Die Cut (RS9e). Showing all points of the star, a few blue silk fibers are readily apparent, some slight thins and minor creases but intact and choice condition for this
VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 4-CENT BLUE J. C. AYER & CO. ON EXPERIMENTAL SILK PAPER.
As an indication of rarity, none was offered in the Lilly or Joyce sales. It was first listed in the 1993 Scott U.S. Specialized, two years after the Joyce sale, with a dash for the price. It is also not mentioned in the 1994 Aldrich book. This is the second we have offered since keeping computerized records. We offered an example in the Inman sale that had more extensive faults
J. C. Ayer & Co., 4c Blue, USIR Watermark, Imperforate (RS10d). Large to huge margins showing plate edges at bottom and left, rich color, Extremely Fine Gem, a superb example
J. C. Ayer & Co., 4c Blue, Plate Proof on Thin Card, Perforated (RS10P4 var). Containing one complete design and parts of two others, with perforations running thru designs, "+" at upper left, Very Fine and unusual, a similar but larger multiple was offered in our sale of the Tolman collection
D. S. Barnes, 1c Vermilion, Old Paper (RS15a). Brilliant color, reperfed, otherwise Very Fine, we have yet to offer a fault-free example of this issue
D. S. Barnes, 2c Vermilion, Old Paper (RS16a). Bright color, small faults including pulled perf, light creases and thin, otherwise Very Fine, every example we have offered in the last 30 years had faults to some degree
D. S. Barnes, 4c Vermilion, Old Paper (RS17a). Fresh color, faults including small repair at upper right and creases, otherwise Very Fine and attractive example with good color, Aldrich records 24, nearly all of which have faults, we have yet to offer a fault-free example in our sales
Demas Barnes, 6c Black, Essay on India (RS23-E var). Unissued 6c design in horizontal format, Very Fine, scarce
T. H. Barr, 4c Black, Experimental Silk Paper (RS27e). Couple readily identifiable short silk fibers, margin fault at top and thins, otherwise Fine, rare, we have offered only two others since keeping computerized records
Barry's, 2c Green, Pink Paper (RS29c). Rich color, small thin spots, Fine appearance, with 1992 A.P.S. certificate
B. Bandreth, 1c Black, Silk Paper (RS34b). Large margins to ample at bottom, small sealed tear at lower left, appears Very Fine, each of the three examples we have offered since keeping computerized records had a fault
Fredrick Brown Co., Philadelphia, "Brown's Ginger", "Vermifuge Comfits". Three multicolored advertising cards, two depicting small children ostensibly brimming with health due to Brown's Ginger, third depicts a mother with children and Worm Lozenges or Vermifuge Comfits, Very Fine and outstanding collateral items
J. W. Campion & Co., 4c Black, USIR Watermark (RS47d). Large margins, intense shade and impression, faint thin spot, still fresh and Extremely Fine appearance, with 2014 P.F. certificate
The Centaur Co., 1c-4c, J.B. Rose & Co., 2c (RS50-RS52, RS204). Seven stamps spanning the range of the iconic Centaur design, five The Centaur Co., 1c-4c, each a different variety, two varieties of the J.B. Rose & Co. 2c, includes RS204b with major double transfer, couple minor flaws but overall an attractive and Fine-Very Fine group
Dr. A. W. Chase, Son & Co., 1c-2c Black, Silk Paper (RS53b-RS54b). First with huge margins but a pulled perf and couple blunted perfs, otherwise Extremely Fine, second small thin spots, appears Fine
Dr. A. W. Chase, Son & Co., 4c Black, Silk Paper (RS55b). Wide margins, fresh and Very Fine
Wm. E. Clarke, Providence R.I., "Hunt's Remedy". Multi-colored advertising card for "Hunt's Remedy: The Great Kidney & Liver Medicine", with other uses listed at right and a long testimonial on back, the central design is a wonderful macabre image of a man hitting "death" over the head with a bottle of Hunt's Remedy— as depicted on the Wm. E Clarke RS56d Medicine stamp offered in the following lot, Very Fine and wonderful collateral item
Wm. E. Clarke, 3c Blue, USIR Watermark (RS56d). Nicely balanced margins, pastel color, purple "W" backstamp, Very Fine example of this wonderfully macabre design, one of the stamps from the 1998 "Celebrate the Century" sheets was based on this design (Scott No. 3182f)
Collins Bros., 1c Black, Silk Paper (RS59b). Margins to in, small thin spot, Very Good appearing example of this rare stamp, we have offered fewer than six in the last 30 years and only one was sound

Dalley's Magical Pain Extractor. Four beautiful multicolored advertising cards, showing a range of designs for Dalley's Magical Pain Extractor, each scene includes horses, with racing and steeple chase, backs with lengthy descriptions and testimonials, some very slight edge or back toning, one with a corner crease, Very Fine group and scarce, an excellent companion to the Dalley's Horse Salve stamps offered in the following lot
Dalley's Galvanic Horse Salve, 2c Green, Old, Silk and Watermarked Papers (RS73a, RS37b, RS37d). One of each, rich colors, small flaws including couple pulled perfs, Fine appearing trio of this beautiful and popular horse design
