VERY FINE APPEARING EXAMPLE OF THE RARE 10-CENT BAILEY & COMPANY ENCASED POSTAGE STAMP.

J. Bailey & Company was one of the largest jewelry firms in the United States (it still operates under the name Bailey, Banks and Biddle). The firm's engravers also freelanced for the U.S. Mint. The Reed census reports only 5-10 known.

Stamp with rich color and attractively placed so denomination is clearly visible, small part of original silvering on reverse, mica with minor thin crack, Very Fine example of this issue in choice condition, John I. Brown & Son was a Boston-based patent medicine manufacturer and marketer, Brown's Bronchial Troches was advertised as a tonic for the throat and breathing passages with endorsements from singers, teachers, ministers and others, the firm was later associated with the sale of the notorious "Mrs. Winslow's Soothing Syrup," a morphine and alcohol-based concoction that caused the deaths of hundreds of children through overdoses
