1c Blue, Ty. Ib (5A). Position 6R1E, large margins to in at bottom incl. sheet margin at top, neat strike of grid and part of circular datestamp cancel, inconsequential corner crease at top right entirely in marginA FINE EXAMPLE OF THE 1851 ONE-CENT TYPE IB FROM PLATE ONE EARLY -- POSITION 6R1E IS ONE OF THE TWO POSITIONS THAT FURNISHED THE BEST TYPE IB EXAMPLES.
Type Ib was produced only as an imperforate stamp from Plate 1 Early. Six positions on Plate 1E furnished stamps qualifying as Type Ib -- Positions 3-6R and 8-9R -- distinguished by the complete design at top and nearly complete design at bottom. When first entered on the plate, these six positions (as well as 7R1E) had the complete design at top and bottom. However, unlike 7R, small portions of the bottoms were burnished away. Positions 6R and 8R had less of the bottom erased than the other Type Ib positions, and for this reason they are more desirable examples of the type.

3c Brownish Carmine, Ty. II (11A). Huge to enormous margins incl. bottom left sheet corner and parts of the three other adjoining stamps, magnificent color, neat circular datestampEXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS GORGEOUS STAMP HAS BEEN AWARDED THE GRADE OF GEM 100 JUMBO BY P.S.E. -- ONLY THREE EXAMPLES HAVE ACHIEVED THIS GRADE TO DATE, AND THIS IS LIKELY THE ONLY ONE IN THE MORE DESIRABLE BROWNISH CARMINE SHADE.
With 2005 P.F. and 2006 P.S.E. certificates (100 Gem Jumbo; SMQ $860.00 as 98, unpriced in the 100 or 100 Jumbo grades). Only two others have achieved this perfect grade
3c Dull Red, Chicago Perf 12-1/2 (11 var). Bright shade, neatly cancelled by 1856 Chicago circular datestamp, perfs scissors-trimmed at left, few small faults incl. pinhole and small tear at top left, otherwise Fine, rare, with 2004 P.S.E. certificate
5c Red Brown (12). Large to huge margins, pleasing color and light circular datestamp, Extremely Fine, with 2008 P.F. certificate (VF-XF 85; SMQ $1,000.00), this strikes us as a solid 90

The 12c 1851 plate was laid down with very little room between stamps -- just barely one millimeter, to be exact. For this reason, collectors have a difficult time finding stamps with large margins all around. The example offered here, lightly cancelled by a blue datestamp and graded 98 Jumbo by P.S.E., is a truly rare stamp.
With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98 Jumbo; unpriced above the grade of 98 in SMQ, SMQ $4,100.00 as 98). Only two have graded higher to date.
