$1.00 Blue, 1934 Hunting Permit (RW1). Affixed to Form 3333, clear strike of purple "Washington D.C. Aug. 24, 1934" cancel, "W.M. Mooney" at bottom, signed on back by ownerVERY FINE. AUGUST 24, 1934, WAS THE FIRST DAY THE RW1 HUNTING PERMIT STAMP WAS AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC PURCHASE. FEWER THAN FIVE EXAMPLES ON FORM 3333 ARE RECORDED WITH THIS DATE.
The earliest dated examples of Form 3333 with RW1 are from August 22, 1934 -- two days before public release. Only a small handful of these uses are known. They come from a group of RW1s purchased by artist J.N. "Ding" Darling, ahead of the public release date. Some of these were affixed to form 3333. This August 24 use is also extremely rare, with fewer than five known.

Roessler with illustrated "Hunting Permit 1 First Day Cover" purple cachet, Very Fine and unusual, the first day RW1 was available for public sale was Aug. 24, 1934, the first digit of the month in the datestamp is not perfectly clear but must be an Aug. 27 date

Jul. 2, 1935 3:30 PM" duplex datestamp on Roessler cover addressed to Robert Roe, "The Girl Stamp Dealer" in East Orange N.J., with illustrated "Hunting Permit 1 First Day Cover" black cachet, some slight soiling not affecting the stamps, Very Fine and unusual, the first day RW2 was available for sale was July 1, 1935, making this a second day philatelic use

Jul. 1, 1936" circular datestamp on 1c postal card addressed to Roessler in East Orange N.J., Very Fine, after previous attempts with RW1 and RW2, demonstrated in the two prior lots in this sale, Roessler finally succeeded in making a Federal Hunting Permit stamp First Day cover with the RW3 offered here
