5c Red Brown (1). Large to full margins, worn-plate impression, clear strikes of red New York City circular datestamp and matching "PAID" in arc handstamp, Very Fine and choice, the ubiquitous "Paid" arc of the pre-1847 era is actually quite scarce on the 1847 Issue, this combination with the town circular datestamp on one stamp is extremely unusual, with 1995 P.F. certificate
5c Red Brown (1). Bright color from the cleaned plate, large margins to full at top left, cancelled by red grid and matching "PAID" straightline, Very Fine and choice, unusual to find both cancels on a single stamp, with 2006 P.F. certificate
5c Red Brown (1). Full even margins all around, rich color from an intermediate impression, "FREE" and "PAID" handstamps struck in criss-cross fashion in same blue ink, Extremely Fine, a very choice 5c 1847 with such an unusual combination of cancels, with 2002, 2007 and 2012 P.F. certificates
5c Orange Brown (1b). Large margins to clear, warm shade and worn-plate impression complemented by well-struck blue "Way 6" in double-circle with fleurons waterway handstamp of Mobile Ala., small thin spot at top and light vertical crease, Very Fine strike of this extremely rare waterway marking (Simpson-Alexander Rarity 9), Power Search lists only two others on the 1847 Issue (both 5c off-cover and ex Gross), with 2015 P.F. certificate
5c Red Brown (1). Ample to full margins, rich color from an intermediate impression, cancelled by red "WAY 5" handstamp, Very Fine stamp and strike of this scarce "Way" marking, with 2006 P.F. certificate
5c Dark Brown (1a). Large margins all around with trace of adjoining stamp at top, dark shade, intermediate impression, complemented by blue numeral "2" in double-line circle cancel of Philadelphia, beautifully struck at center so that the curve of the "2" outlines Franklin's faceEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A STUNNING EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE IN THE DARK BROWN SHADE WITH A BLUE NUMERAL "2" CANCEL WHICH IS PERFECTLY PLACED.
According to an article by Dr. Vernon R. Morris, Jr. in Chronicle 200, the "2" handstamp was used in Philadelphia to indicate payment in cash of "to the mails" carrier service for a destination outside the old city limits (pre-1854 consolidation).

5c Red Brown (1). Dark shade and intermediate impression, large margins to clear at top, bold strike of blue numeral "2" in double-line circle cancel of Philadelphia, Extremely Fine strike and probably the boldest example we have seen, according to an article by Dr. Vernon R. Morris, Jr. in Chronicle 200, the "2" handstamp was used in Philadelphia to indicate payment in cash of "to the mails" carrier service for a destination outside the old city limits (pre-1854 consolidation), with 2016 P.F. certificate
5c Orange Brown (1b). Large even margins all around, bright shade from the cleaned plate, well-struck blue "5" in oval handstamp cancelEXTREMELY FINE. A VERY CHOICE 5-CENT 1847 ORANGE BROWN WITH A WELL-STRUCK BLUE NUMERAL "5" IN OVAL CANCEL.

5c Grayish Brown (1a var). Strong color and detailed early impression, full to large margins all around, cancelled by clearly struck red numeral "5" handstamp, Very Fine and choice, a beautiful First Printing stamp with red numeral cancel, with 2004 P.F. certificate
5c Orange Brown (1b). Bright shade from the cleaned plate, large margins to clear, cancelled by well-struck red numeral "10" handstamp, Extremely Fine strike on a fresh 5c Orange Brown, with 2014 P.F. certificate
5c Brown, 10c Black (1, 2). Large margins to clear, each with clear strike of red "X" Roman numeral cancel of Lafayette, Indiana, 5c faint vertical crease at right, 10c two small flaws at bottom, Very Fine appearance, a very unusual cancel, 5c ex Caspary, both ex Stollnitz, Saadi and Gross
5c Dark Brown (1a). Three large margins to touching frameline at bottom, dark shade and worn-plate impression, tied on small piece of letter by unusual red numeral "X" divided into small segments, Fine and unusual, ex Stollnitz, Saadi and Gross, with 1996 and 2013 P.F. certificates
5c Red Brown (1). Full margins to clear at left, rich color from cleaned plate, bold strike of blue numeral "12" in double-line circle cancel of Philadelphia, Extremely Fine strike and very rare example of a 5c 1847 with a 12c rate handstamp, this is the clearest strike we have seen among the few examples listed in Power Search, with 2011 P.F. certificate
5c Brown (1). Vertical pair, large even margins all around, rich color and intermediate impression, each stamp cancelled by neat strike of red numeral "5" handstamp, bottom stamp with light natural diagonal pre-printing creaseEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A BEAUTIFUL FOUR-MARGIN VERTICAL PAIR OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE WITH RED NUMERAL "5" CANCELS.
Vertical pairs of the 5c 1847 Issue are less common than horizontal pairs. Combining that with large margins all around and red numeral cancels makes this a rare and very desirable pair.
