"Picks of the Orchard" Around the World Flight Covers, 1935-47. Very large handmade album with leather and cloth covers containing about 100 covers, so-named "Picks of the Orchard" since most of the covers are addressed to a Mr. Orchard of Freshwater Bay, Isle of Wight, England, all are large-size covers as to accommodate the various multiple mixed frankings, several unusually high values noted, all painstakingly and beautifully hand-written, each flight is described by route and time it took to accomplish, some with drawn maps of routes and some with contemporary clippings, the rest of the album is devoted to two parts: first is German Zeppelins with Liechtenstein C15-C16 sets on two covers (one with additional German and U.S. franking), Germany with a set of Chicago Flight covers, South America Flight covers and a beautiful unused set of Polar Flight stamps (1991 Schlegel certificate), last is a group of Steve Fossett 1994-2006 record balloon and Virgin Atlantic "Global Flyer" covers, all signed and with flight information, a magnificent collection and album all housed in its own special cloth covered box, the cost of the album, lettering, box, etc. must have been a very tidy sum, unique!, viewing recommended
