Rich color, tied by "Mafeking C.G.H. ? 17, 1900" circular datestamp on small piece, fresh and Very Fine, the siege of Mafeking was lifted on May 17, 1900 when British forces fought their way in to relieve the city, unfortunately we cannot make out the month of the cancel but it may have been cancelled on this day, with 1985 P.F. certificate, SG £600

FRANCE, Ballon Monte. France 30c tied by Star of Dots, "Paris 23 Nov. 70" double-circle datestamp on small folded letter to Brussels, Belgium, receiving backstamp (Dec. 6), fresh and Very Fine, carried on the Ville d'Orleans which went drastically off course and had to jettison some of its mail bags to avoid crashing into the North Sea, the pilot and copilot bailed out in Norway but the balloon drifted away and was found a few days later, a more complete history of this interesting trip can be found at http://www.scc-online.org/ph05may.pdf , Yvert e800
