Sale 1111, Lot 68, 1869 Pictorial Issue and 1875 Re-Issue (Scott 112-122)24c Green & Violet (120). Choice centering with wide margins, rich colors on bright paper, cancelled solely by red Leaf cork cancel

EXTREMELY FINE USED EXAMPLE OF THE 24-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE.

The high-value 1869's are scarce cancelled solely in red, as normally a black cork cancel was struck on the stamp. In our opinion, a 24c 1869 cancelled in this manner was used on a New York City Supplementary Mail cover.

With 2015 P.F. certificate

Sale 1111, Lot 73, 1869 Pictorial Issue and 1875 Re-Issue (Scott 112-122)24c Green & Violet, Re-Issue (130). Mint N.H., deep rich colors and proof-like impressions, long and full perforations

VERY FINE. THE 24-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL RE-ISSUE IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND IN MINT NEVER-HINGED CONDITION. A PHENOMENAL RARITY.

Due to the extreme rarity of 24c 1869 Re-Issue multiples, there have been few opportunities to harvest Mint N.H. singles from blocks. Our records and a search thru auction catalogues found only one other, with bottom selvage in Extremely Fine condition, offered by Siegel in 2005 (Sale 902, lot 1071, realized $27,000 hammer)
