1861 Issue, Black Trial Color Large and Small Die Proofs on India (63TC1a/72TC1a). Set incl. 1c, 3c-12c and 24c-90c with extra 30c, each cut down to stamp size, faults throughout incl. creases, thins and small margin nicks (possibly from being stuck down in a sample book), one 30c defective with corner missing, several with unusual black pen circles or lines around the vignettes, while the condition lacks something to be desired this is a rare set which comes from the American Bank Note Co. archives, also incl. defective 5c and 10c Postage Currency trial color proofs in Black, Scott Retail if these were sound would be well over $12,000.00
3c Rose (65). Beautiful bright color and near perfect centering, Syracuse N.Y. town cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2008 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $180.00)
3c Rose (65). Brilliant color, cancelled by perfect strike of Anchor fancy cancel of Putnam Conn. (S-E PO-AN 14), Extremely Fine strike of this intricate fancy cancel, with 2008 P.F. certificate
3c Lake, Imperforate (66a). Part original gum, small h.r., large even margins, rich color, small gum soak at bottom not mentioned on accompanying certificate, appears Extremely Fine, with 1995 P.S.E. certificate, Scott Retail for pair $1,850.00
5c Buff (67). Deep rich color and clear impression, gorgeous centering with the design untouched by the perfs, neat strike of San Francisco cogwheel cancelEXTREMELY FINE. A WONDERFULLY FRESH AND CENTERED USED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1861 BUFF MADE MORE DESIRABLE BY THE SAN FRANCISCO CANCEL.
Due to narrow spacing on the 5c plate, it is very difficult to find centered copies with the perforations clear of the design on all sides. The stamp offered here, with its choice centering and cancel, is a condition rarity.
With 2007 P.S.E. certificate (XF 90; SMQ $3,000.00). Only four have graded higher to date, all at 95

5c Olive Yellow (67b). Vibrant color, town cancel, tiny surface scrape and light corner crease noted on accompanying certificate are barely noticeable, Fine appearance, despite the small flaws an attractive example of this rare shade, with 2009 P.F. certificate
10c Yellow Green (68). Jumbo margins, rich color, blue target cancel and part of circular datestamp at bottom left, Extremely Fine, a huge stamp, with 1999 P.F. certificate
12c Black (69). Perfect centering with wide margins all around, crisp impression showing every detail of the engraving, neat strike of town cancelEXTREMELY FINE GEM. AN OUTSTANDING USED EXAMPLE OF THE 12-CENT 1861 ISSUE, WHICH HAS BEEN GRADED SUPERB 98 BY P.S.E.
With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; SMQ $2,750.00). Only three have graded higher to date (at 98J) and only four others share this desirable grade.
