5c Red Brown (1). Enormous margins all around incl. part of adjoining stamp at top, clear stitch watermark at bottom, gorgeous color nicely complemented by red grid cancelEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A MAGNIFICENT USED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE, WHICH HAS BEEN GRADED SUPERB 98 JUMBO BY P.S.E.
With 2005 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98 Jumbo; unpriced above the grade of 98, SMQ $3,350.00 as 98). Only two have graded higher to date and only one other shares this grade

5c Brown, Double Transfer Ty. A (1-A). Position 80R1, large to huge margins, bright shade, red grid cancel leaves double transfer clearly visible, fresh and Extremely Fine, a beautiful example of this variety
5c Blackish Brown (1a var). Deep rich color and sharp early impression, large margins, light strike of red grid cancel, Extremely Fine, with 2010 P.S.E. certificate (VF-XF 85; SMQ $700.00)
5c Dark Brown (1a). Large balanced margins, beautiful deep shade nicely complemented by red New York square grid cancel, Extremely Fine, with 2005 P.S.E. certificate (VF-XF 85; SMQ $700.00)
5c Orange Brown (1b). Brilliant color in the early Orange Brown shade, large even margins, light strike of red grid cancelEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A BEAUTIFUL AND BRIGHT EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE IN VIVID ORANGE BROWN COLOR.
In our opinion, the 1847 Orange Brown shade from the earliest printing is far more desirable than the later Orange Brown, and the earlier shade holds up much better over time. This is a superb example.

5c Red Orange (1c). Huge margins to ample at top showing part of adjoining stamp at bottom, marvelous Red Orange color, nicely complemented by red grid cancelVERY FINE AND CHOICE. A RARE FOUR-MARGIN SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE IN THE RED ORANGE SHADE. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST ELUSIVE SHADES TO OBTAIN IN ANY CONDITION.

5c Brown Orange (1d). Large to full margins, rich color and proof-like impression, neat strike of blue Philadelphia "5 cts" integral-rate circular datestampVERY FINE AND CHOICE. A WONDERFUL RICHLY-COLORED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 BROWN ORANGE SHADE. KEPT IN THE DARK FOR MOST OF THE PAST HALF-CENTURY AND THUS BEAUTIFULLY PRESERVED.
