1c Blue, Ty. IV, Triple Transfer, One Inverted (23 var). Position 71L1L, recut twice at top and once at bottom, rich color, unobtrusive cancelFINE. ONE OF ONLY FOUR POSITIONS ON THIS ONE-CENT PLATE RECUT TWICE AT TOP AND ONCE AT BOTTOM, AND THE ONLY ONE OF THE FOUR WHICH IS A TRIPLE TRANSFER, ONE INVERTED. THIS VARIETY IS SIGNIFICANTLY RARER IN PERFORATED FORM.

Choice centering with perfs essentially clear of design all around, incredibly beautiful deep rich color, undeniably the Indian Red shade, light partial circular datestamps at top and bottom leaving Jefferson's vignette clearly visibleEXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 5-CENT INDIAN RED.

5c Brown (29). Beautiful single with lovely color and centering, margins clear of design all around, Philadelphia octagonal datestamp, Extremely Fine, with photocopy of 1984 P.F. certificate for a horizontal pair, and 1992 P.S.E. and 2001 P.F. certificates

5c Orange Brown, Ty. II (30). Original gum, lightly hinged, beautiful warm color, choice centering with unusually wide marginsEXTREMELY FINE. A GORGEOUS ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT TYPE II ORANGE BROWN ISSUED IN 1861.
This issue is extremely difficult to obtain with perfs clear of design on all sides.
5c Orange Brown, Ty. II (30). Original gum, very dark shade and proof-like impression, well-centered for this difficult issue, tiny nibbed perf at upper left, otherwise Very Fine, with 1987 P.F. certificate

Unlike its Orange Brown counterpart, the 5c Type II in Brown was not on hand in post offices when the 1861 demonetization order took effect. Therefore, original-gum examples of Scott 30A are far scarcer than Scott 30. The narrow spacing between subjects on the plate and Toppan Carpenter's imprecise perforating leave collectors with very few well-centered original-gum examples.
