5c Blue, Imperforate (315). Mint N.H., large margins, fresh and Extremely Fine, with 2016 P.F. certificate (XF 90), when we look at the stamp offered in the previous lot, we are not sure how this graded only 90
5c Blue, Coil (317). Mint N.H., intense shade and impression on crisp paper, beautifully centered with wide and balanced margins, fresh and pristineEXTREMELY FINE. A RARE CENTERED AND SOUND MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 1908 5-CENT VERTICAL COIL, SCOTT 317.
The 5c 1908 Coil stamps, which were stripped by hand, are almost always centered to one side. The example offered here, with wide margins on both sides, is a rarity for the issue. Factoring in its Mint Never-Hinged gum, this stamp is certainly one of the finest examples of the issue.

It is believed that only one pane of 50 was found in Cleveland Ohio. This intact pane was originally sold to A.W. Weigel of the Ohio Stamp Co. and very shortly thereafter became part of the George H. Worthington collection. After the Worthington sale it was broken into pairs and blocks of four, including the unique plate block offered in our sale of the William H. Gross Multiples Collection (Sale 1200, lot 193). Power Search lists very few of these rarities -- we have offered only a handful of others since 1990.
