Jan. 16, 1862" circular datestamp on cover to Petersburg Va. with blue embossed cameo corner card design for "J. A. Belvin", lumber dealer, depicting horses pulling a cart, wonderful detail showing a gate and a coach driver with a whip in his hand, missing backflapVERY FINE. Large to huge margins all around, bright color, tied by "Tuscaloosa Ala. ? 21, 1862" circular datestamp on oatmeal cover to Marion Ala. with "Warrior Works, Tuscaloosa, Ala." illustrated cameo corner card in dark blue, depicting a plow, W. Eaves N.Y. imprint, upon arrival cover was turned and franked with pair of 5c Light Blue, De La Rue (6), tied by "Marion Ala. Sep. 9" circular datestamp and addressed to Woodville Ala., flaps opened for displayEXTREMELY FINE. We can unequivocally state that this is one of the finest Confederate advertising covers extant. Any use of the 10c Rose on an illustrated cover is rare, and this is one of the choicest of that small population. Interestingly, the finest 10c Rose illustrated college cover is also postmarked Tuscaloosa (ex Dr. Brandon, Siegel Sale 1087, lot 420, realized $17,500 hammer). This cover and the 10c Engraved cover with the same design offered in the following lot make an ideal pair.
