Position 96R4, large to full margins all around showing the complete Type Ia design characteristics including the complete plumes at bottom, deep rich Plate 4 color, neat strike of blue circular datestampEXTREMELY FINE. AN EXCEPTIONALLY BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE IMPERFORATE 1851 ONE-CENT TYPE Ia, CANCELLED IN BLUE AND GRADED XF 90 BY P.S.E.
Stamps printed from Plate 4 were issued in April, May and briefly in June 1857 before perforations were introduced. The relatively small number of imperforate Plate 4 stamps issued during this period explains the rarity and desirability of any of the imperforate stamp types produced from this plate (Ia, Ic, II, III and IIIa). The extremely rare Type Ia, showing the full design at bottom, was furnished only by 18 of the 200 subjects on Plate 4 (the remaining two bottom-row positions were sub-type Ic).

Position 9R1L, recut once at bottom (only eight such recuts on plate), large margins beautifully frame the design, portion of adjoining stamp at bottom, incredibly deep color, face-free cancel with edges of red circular datestamp, Extremely Fine Gem, a beautiful stamp, this top-row position from the right pane of Plate 1 produced Type Ib stamps during the early state of the plate, ex Vogel and "Golden Oak"

1851 3c Dull Red Complete Calendar (11-11A). Absolutely remarkable assemblage containing 366 used stamps, each individually mounted on hand-made pages arranged by month with bold strikes of circular datestamps showing every date of the year, including a very rare Feb. 29 (leap year), range of shades and even a few sheet-margin examples, accompanied by separate pages that list well over half the positions comprising the calendar, usual mixed qualityFINE APPEARANCE. AN ATTRACTIVE AND RARE COMPLETE CALENDAR ASSEMBLED FROM THE 3-CENT 1851 ISSUE. A DAUNTING UNDERTAKING AND A WONDERFUL CONVERSATION PIECE.
Scott Retail of basic stamps alone is $5,490.00 which obviously does not reflect the difficulty of assembling this calendar that would take years to recreate.
