Choice group of blocks of four of the 1c-12c small numeral plate essays, hinged onto album pages, incl. 1c one block imperforate and four perforated (one without grill), 2c eight perforated blocks in full range of colors, 3c 12 blocks incl. four imperforate, range of colors, 5c four imperforate blocks, 10c Lincoln three imperforate blocks, 12c five perforated blocks (these don't come imperforate), range of centering but many are quite well-centeredVERY FINE. A SCARCE OLD-TIME HOLDING OF 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE SMALL NUMERAL PLATE ESSAYS IN BLOCKS OF FOUR.

Four singles, first rich color on bright white paper, wide margins and wonderfully well-centered, neat quartered cork cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2009 P.F. certificate, other three each with a neat target cancel, two in blue and one in black, one socked-on-the nose (with light diagonal crease), first Extremely Fine, the other two Very Fine or Very Fine appearance, one with P.F. certificate
3c Small Numeral, Plate Essay on Stamp Paper, Perforated 12, Grilled (114-E6d). Three blocks of four, in Deep Orange, Violet and Rose Red, also block of four of No. 114P3, typical India paper translucencies on the latter, Fine-Very Fine group, Scott Retail as singles
3c Ultramarine, Without Grill (114a). Original gum, h.r., with black pen defacement cancelsFINE AND RARE. ONLY TWO USED EXAMPLES OF THE 3-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL WITHOUT GRILL ARE RECORDED ON ORDINARY PAPER. A GREAT RARITY OF THE ISSUE.
A footnote in Scott Catalogue states that two ungrilled examples are recorded on normal paper: the example offered here and one on cover which was lifted to confirm identity. Two items on gray paper without grill are also known: a strip of three on piece (ex Coulter and Natalee Grace) and a single on an advertising cover, lifted to confirm identity and hinged in place.

30c Ultramarine & Carmine (121). Choice centering with wide margins, bold radial cork cancel, part of red transit at bottom left and also trace of blue cancel at left, Extremely Fine, a beautiful stamp, with 2005 P.S.E. certificate (XF 90; SMQ $1,300.00), we believe this could easily have been graded 95, Scott Retail with premium for red cancel
30c Ultramarine & Carmine (121). Exceptionally well-centered with wide margins, light strike of Japanese "X" cancel, Extremely Fine, a scarce cancel on the 30c 1869 Issue, with 1992 P.F. certificate
