Sale 1155, Lot 3057, Colonial thru 1800Cockermouth, England to Philadelphia via London, 1746, "COCKER/MOUTH". Two-line handstamp on folded cover to Israel Pemberton in Philadelphia, manuscript "poast payd to London 4d" at bottom and "ppd 4" at top, brownish-black "PD" in circle handstamp on front and "18/NO" (Nov. 18) Bishop's mark on back, docketing inside gives yeardate and notes sender was Benjamin Holme, opened for display, some splitting along folds and faint toning, Very Fine, the recipient was one of the wealthiest merchants in Philadelphia, both the sender and recipient were prominent Quakers, ex Historical Society of Pennsylvania

Sale 1155, Lot 3062, Colonial thru 1800England to Fredericksburg, 1777, "pr the Shipper of the Sloop York", British Blockade Run. Folded cover addressed to Mr. James Hunter in Fredericksburg, docketing reads "1777 Adam Craig Novr. 27", minor wear, Very Fine, the British Admiralty issued a "seize and detain" order on July 6, 1775, it was designed to prevent all commerce by American vessels, the blockade that resulted grew to a peak of 32 warships by June 1778, before it was temporarily ended by French entry into the Revolutionary War
