Mint N.H. top left plate no. 19747 block of four, bright color and attractive margins and centering for this difficult issue, certificate mentions a perf crease between top stamps, appears Fine-Very Fine, a scarce plate block in Mint N.H. condition, ex Diamond, with 2019 P.S.E. certificate
2c Carmine, Ty. II (634A). Two blocks of four, first is Mint N.H. bottom right corner plate no. 19746 block of four, rich color, perfs in at top, bottom right stamp natural inclusion, second is Mint N.H. block of four with vertical gutter, rich color, Fine-Very Fine
2c Vermont (643). Mint N.H., wide margins and mathematically perfect centering, bright and fresh, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2020 P.S.E. certificate (Gem 100; SMQ $300.00), one of only six at this perfect grade with just one higher (at 100J, offered in our Sale 1212)
2c Burgoyne (644). Mint N.H., huge Jumbo margins, mathematically perfect centering with bright color and paper, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2013 P.S.E. certificate (Gem 100 Jumbo; SMQ $275.00 as 100, unpriced 100 Jumbo grade), this is one of only four in this highest of grades, we have offered the other three and each realized at least $550 hammer
5c Hawaii Ovpt. (648). Mint N.H., mathematically perfect centering, deep color on post-office fresh paper, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2009 P.S.E. certificate (Gem 100; SMQ $725.00), the highest grade awarded and shared by only six others

1c-10c Kans. Overprints (658/668). Plate no. blocks of four, missing 7c, 8c and 9c, with extra 1-1/2c, most are Mint N.H. including 1c, 2c, 3c, 4c, 5c (edge thin and frayed perfs on one stamp) and 10c, a few with traces of black paper offset on gum, Fine-Very Fine
1c-2c Nebr. Overprint (669-671). Panes of 100, including two each of 1c and 1-1/2c, 1c from plate 19339 (UR and LR) with each containing the No Period After "Nebr" variety (Scott 669b), Mint N.H., one 1c small hole in one stamp, Fine-Very Fine, Scott value approximately
4c Kans. Overprint (662). Mint N.H., rich color and proof-like impression, exceptional centering with Jumbo margins, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2019 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98 Jumbo; SMQ $900.00), only one stamp exceeds this grade (at 100, offered in our Sale 1209) and only six others share this grade
6c Kans. Overprint (664). Mint N.H., radiant color, perfectly centered with wide margins, Extremely Fine Gem, a superb stamp, with 2019 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98 Jumbo; SMQ $1,500.00), only one grades higher (at 100) and two others share this grade
1c-10c Nebr. Overprint (669-679). Complete set of plate no. blocks of four, most are Mint N.H. including 1c, 1-1/2c, 4c, 5c, 6c, 8c and 9c, attractive centering with about half in the Very Fine category, 6c slight oxidation, overall Fine-Very Fine
10c Nebr. Overprint (679). Mint N.H. bottom right corner plate no. 19234 block of four, vibrant color, Very Fine and choice
2c Red Cross (702). Mint N.H. right red and black arrow block of four, red cross shifted significantly upward on all four stamps, red arrow of course also showing the upward shift, gum skips, Very Fine and unusual item
2c Dark Lake & Black (703b). Mint N.H., wonderful depth of color in the distinctive dark Lake, centered to bottom left as are many, small natural inclusion not mentioned on accompanying certificate, Fine, with 2020 P.F. certificate
5c Yellowstone, Horizontal Pair, Imperforate Vertically (744a). Block of four containing two error pairs, top pair lightly hinged, bottom pair Mint N.H. (light fingerprint on gum), centered to the bottom as are many of this value, rich color, mild gum bend, Fine, with 1935 A.P.S. certificate, this is the first block of this error we have offered since our 1976 Rarities of the World sale, Datz states only 50 pairs known, Scott value as Mint N.H. and hinged pairs
$1.00 Presidential (832). Vertical pair, frames dramatically shifted to top with "United States Postage" appearing at the bottom of both stamps rather than the top as is normal, top stamp hinged, bottom stamp Mint N.H. with light pencil notation, Very Fine and spectacular shift, we have offered a handful of examples of this issue with strong vignette shifts but this and a block of four offered in our Sale 1192 are the first we have seen with this major frame shift
$1.00 Presidential (832). Mint N.H. block of four with bottom corner selvage, vignettes strongly shifted to top, with Wilson's head above the "United States Postage" tablet and clear into the perforations at top of each stamp, Very Fine and rare dramatic vignette shift
$1.00 Presidential, USIR Wmk. (832b). Block of four, each stamp with clear watermark, bold "Camp Pendleton Calif. Aug. 1, 1951" circular datestamp with oval grid duplex, bottom right stamp faint wrinkling not apparent except when drying, Very Fine and attractive used block, unlisted in Scott as a used block, Scott value for singles
$5.00 Red Brown & Black (834a). Mint N.H. top double plate nos. 22166/22169 and arrow block of four, deep rich colors in this very distinctive error shade, essentially perfect centeringEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB AND VERY RARE MINT NEVER-HINGED PLATE BLOCK OF THE $5.00 PRESIDENTIAL ISSUE IN THE RED BROWN AND BLACK COLOR, WITH PERFECT CENTERING. THIS IS ONLY THE SECOND IN MINT NEVER-HINGED CONDITION WE HAVE OFFERED IN DECADES.
Roland E. Rustad states in his book The Prexies that only twelve plate blocks of this distinctive color error are recorded (p. 329). We have no reason to doubt that count but we have not seen anywhere close to that many. Before this Mint N.H. plate block, we have offered a Mint N.H. plate block in our 2020 Rarities of the World sale and a no-gum plate block (four separate times) since 1989.

This issue was printed by the American Bank Note Company and perforated in three different formats: Perf 11 x 12 (Scott 1789), Perf 11 All Around (Scott 1789A) and Perf 12 All Around (Scott 1789B). It is believed that the USPS was unaware that there were different perforations. The Perf 12 All Around is by far the rarest.
