PHILIPPINES, 2c Yellow Green, Horizontal Pair, Imperforate Between (290c). Full but slightly disturbed original gum, bright colorFINE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE PHILIPPINES 1917 2-CENT HORIZONTAL PAIR, IMPERFORATE-BETWEEN VERTICALLY, AND THE FIRST WE HAVE OFFERED SINCE KEEPING COMPUTERIZED RECORDS.
The imperforate-between errors exist with the horizontal perforation row missing (in vertical pairs) and with the vertical perforation row missing (in horizontal pairs). The horizontal pairs imperforate-between are considerably rarer, but the catalogue value is lower. Knowledgeable specialists are aware of this anomaly and bid without regard for the catalogue value. The only example we have been able to locate was in the 1993 Gilbert Plass sale (Ivy, Shreve & Mader), and that copy is inferior to the example offered here.
