Tied by grid and used to pay forwarding postage on cover originating in Hong Kong, sent to New York and forwarded to Newport R.I., red "Hong Kong Paid Au. 20, 1863" circular datestamp, London transit, red "32 cents" credit handstamp, "New-York Am. Pkt. Oct. 10" datestamp with matching "10" in circle handstamp, Very Fine, unusual use, the postage to destination must have been paid in cash in Hong Kong, it was sent via American Packet rather than British Packet and so marked due 10 in New York, the 3c stamp paid forwarding postage to final destination

Clear strike of blue arc handstamp with date in ms., matching "Paid" handstamp on cover to Hong Kong, China, also with ms. "65 Stamps" at upper right, endorsed "Via N. York & South Hampton" at lower left, the 65c crossed out to avoid confusion and with magenta "44" ms. credit, Feb. 12 receiving backstamp, barely reduced at top and some minor soiling, Very Fine, very unusual as this should have been paid by stamps, the 65c rate paid 5c U.S. inland plus shore to ship, 16c for a U.S. ship and 44c credit to Great Britain
