6c Proprietary, Orange, Perforated (R31c). Vivid color, neat Aug. 9, 1871 cancel from A. M. F. Gianelli who sold his Italian Bitters in the United States, completely sound

FRESH AND FINE. A RARE SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE 6-CENT PROPRIETARY STAMP.

The 6c Proprietary was issued very late for the first issue Revenues, in April 1871. It was only issued in perforated form. Fewer than ten are recorded with this cancel and very few stamps are known in sound condition with any type of cancel.

With 2023 P.F. certificate. Scott Catalogue notes "Nearly all examples of No. R31 are faulty and poorly centered. The catalogue value is for a fine centered stamp with minor faults which do not detract from its appearance."
