12c Black, Plate 1 (36). Well-balanced margins, cancelled by bold strike of green circular grid of small squares and rectanglesVERY FINE AND CHOICE. AN INCALCULABLY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 12-CENT 1857 ISSUE FROM PLATE ONE WITH A GREEN CANCEL. THIS IS THE FIRST WE HAVE OFFERED SINCE KEEPING COMPUTERIZED RECORDS.
The cancel on this stamp is a true green color, not bluish-green or an adulterated green ink. The cancel's unusual configuration and distinctive green color make this 12c 1857 stamp one of the most striking we have ever encountered.
With 1994 P.F. certificate
