Sale 923, Lot 3408, RevenuesTax Paid Revenue Proofs. 21 different, ca. 1875, includes "Half Pound" to "Five Pounds Snuff" (five different), "Half Pound" to "Five Pounds Manufactured Tobacco" (five different), these ten with National Bank Note Company New York imprints, "Brewer's Permit", couple stock vignettes, seven with collages of imprints associated with tobacco, snuff and distilled spirits as "style" sheets showing the different size letters and fonts, these have pencil numbers above each one which perhaps have to do with the Bank Note Company's internal die numbers, also a 1c Wm. Gates Matches proof of one-third of the design of what would become Wm. Gates' Sons No. RO94 but before the addition of the apostrophe and "Sons" ("Wm. Gates" RO87-RO88 were not issued in the three 1c stamps format), nearly all have "U.S. Inter. Rev." die numbers there is some light soiling and a few faults as would be expected on these working models, a fabulous rare lot sure to attract the attention of Tax Paid Specialists
