(68), tied by light strikes of four-ring target cancels on registered 10c Black entire (U5) to Barbados, West Indies, red "Honolulu Hawaii Dec. 8, 1893" double-circle datestamp and registered handstamps, New York registry label (nicked), transit backstamps, Very Fine cover to a scarce destination

Horizontal pair with part imprint selvage at left, left stamp the error with strong double overprint, also showing trace of additional overprint at far left of selvage, part disturbed original gum, few minor perf separations between stamps sensibly reinforced (intact between stamp and selvage)VERY FINE. (split horizontally), approaching Category I strength though only Category II is listed in Scott, disturbed original gum, slight diagonal creases, bit of white residue in perfs at upper left, Fine appearance and rare with this strength double ovpt.

HAWAII, 1893, 10c Red Brown, Red Overprint Error (61B). Original gum, few narrow areas of disturbance, radiant color, well-centered for this difficult issue, tiny stain at centerVERY FINE APPEARING ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 10-CENT RED OVERPRINT ERROR. ONLY ONE SHEET OF FIFTY WAS ISSUED.
Two errors of the 1893 Provisional Government Overprint Issues were made. One sheet of the 10c Red Brown, normally overprinted in black, was overprinted in red (Scott 61B). One sheet of the 6c Green, normally overprinted in red, was overprinted in black (Scott 66C). According to an affidavit by Louis T. Kenake, clerk of the Stamp Division of the Republic of Hawaii, the 10c sheet was issued to the postmaster at Kahuka, Oahu (Meyer-Harris, p. 240). The 6c sheet was purchased by Postmaster Jos. M. Oat and sometime around 1901 most of it was sold to dealer J. H. Makins, probably on behalf of Henry J. Crocker. The San Francisco earthquake is said to have destroyed a number of examples of both the overprint errors.

Only two sheets were doubly overprinted. This pair with the selvage capturing the shifted overprint is a striking example, as well as an extremely rare multiple.

Only two sheets were doubly overprinted. This block with two examples, plus two stamps showing a small portion of a second overprint, is extremely rare.
With 1969 P.F. certificate (as old No. 62a). Scott Retail as two Category I errors

One of each, the first with moderate diagonal second ovpt. showing dramatic vertical and horizontal split causing the ovpt. to appear in the top right and bottom left corners, small part original gum, small thin spot, appears Fine, the other stamp with weaker second ovpt. that falls into the Category III group but is unlisted in Scott this way, original gum, light toning mostly on the perfs, Very Fine appearance, with 2003 P.F. certificate, Scott Retail as two of No. 62e

Miowera", receiving backstamp, printed company corner card on backflap for agent of Lloyd's, some edge wear including tear at top from opening, some toning, otherwise Very Fine and rare use paying 10c rate plus 15c registered return fee to New Zealand, ex Aall, the Miowera was wrecked on rocks near Honolulu on October 2, 1893, shortly after this cover was carried
