(1866) credit datestamp, red London Paid transit, red crayon "1" British Colonial credit, Aden receiving backstamp, slightly reduced at left, part of address strengthened, Very Fine appearance, an attractive cover from the Goodhue correspondence, the 15c and 30c stamps pay the 45c British Mail via Marseilles rate for a letter up to a half-ounce, the addressee, Albert P. Goodhue, was a ship chandler and businessman from Salem, Massachusetts, he is probably related to Benjamin Goodhue, who served in the state senate from 1784-89 and then as Massachusetts representative in the first U.S. congress, Benjamin was a commercial merchant instrumental in establishing many of this country's revenue laws, and his son, Jonathan, was a prominent commercial merchant, ex Gibson, No. 7 in census published in Chronicle 234

VERY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL AND RARE USE OF AN EARLY STAMP DEALER'S ADVERTISING COVER TO SWITZERLAND.

According to research by the late Steven R. Belasco, Kline's Emporium was run by John W. Klein (spelling differs from how it is printed on the cover). Under the name A.C. Klein, he published the first stamp catalogue in the United States in 1862.

VERY FINE AND RARE. AN OUTSTANDING USE OF A STRIP OF THREE OF THE 1861 24-CENT LILAC ON A COVER FROM CALIFORNIA TO BOMBAY VIA NEW YORK AND LONDON.

The 24c credit and New York datestamp indicate that despite the sender's payment and directive, the cover was sent by American packet via London.
