24c Pink, 1894 Issue (PR96). Mint N.H. block of four with full imprint at bottom, brilliant color, nice margins with perfs clear of design almost at every point, short natural gum crease in bottom right stampFINE. AN INCREDIBLY RARE MINT NEVER-HINGED IMPRINT BLOCK OF FOUR OF THE 1894 20-CENT UNWATERMARKED NEWSPAPERS AND PERIODICALS BUREAU ISSUE.
As this marvelous position multiple shows, the 1894 Bureau printing was made from the old plates of the American and Continental Bank Note Companies. The plates were re-entered, and there are also other differences in the printings, including the paper and gum. This issue was not in service for very long before the new plates were ready for the Bureau-produced issue of 1895. A few other blocks are contained in Power Search, but only one other has the imprint (from the Whitpain collection) and it is hinged. In fact, Power Search contains only a single Mint N.H. stamp, and it is badly off-center.
With 2012 P.F. certificate. Scott Retail as hinged
