HAWAII, 1893, 10c Red Brown, Red Overprint Error (61B). Position 40 with sheet margin at right, original gum, unusually wide margins for this stamp, rich colorEXTREMELY FINE. A SUPERB EXAMPLE OF THIS RARE ERROR IN THE FINEST CONDITION ATTAINABLE. ONLY ONE SHEET OF 50 WAS ISSUED.
Two errors of the 1893 Provisional Government Overprint Issues were made. One sheet of the 10c Red Brown, normally overprinted in black, was overprinted in red (Scott 61B). One sheet of the 6c Green, normally overprinted in red, was overprinted in black (Scott 66C). According to an affidavit by Louis T. Kenake, clerk of the Stamp Division of the Republic of Hawaii, the 10c sheet was issued to the postmaster at Kahuka, Oahu (Meyer-Harris, p. 240). The 6c sheet was purchased by Postmaster Jos. M. Oat and sometime around 1901 most of it was sold to dealer J. H. Makins, probably on behalf of Henry J. Crocker. The San Francisco earthquake is said to have destroyed a number of examples of both the overprint errors.

HAWAII, 1893, 6c Green, Black Overprint Error (66C). Original gum, well-centered, rich color on fresh paperEXTREMELY FINE. AN OUTSTANDING ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE RARE 1893 6-CENT BLACK OVERPRINT ERROR. ONLY ONE SHEET OF 50 WAS ISSUED.

Two, affixed to small piece of document with perfs just slightly overlapping, one stamp with trace of imprint in margin, tied by "Cancelled" straightline handstamp in deep blue on small piece, intense colors, very light gum toning, mild vertical crease in right stampVERY FINE APPEARANCE. ONE OF TWO RECORDED PIECES BEARING THE HAWAII 1910 $5.00 WITH INVERTED DENOMINATION. A GREAT RARITY OF HAWAIIAN STAMPS AND WORLD-WIDE INVERTS.
There are only two recorded items bearing the 1910 $5.00 Dollar Revenue with inverted denomination -- this piece and the horizontal pair offered in our Honolulu Advertiser sale (Sale 769, lot 3887, realized $19,500 hammer). The Advertiser pair, now in an important Honolulu collection, is similarly cancelled and tied to piece (and also has gum toning).

Group of 19 items, including complete set of eight of the Railroad stamps, 6c and 18c unused (no gum), others cancelled mostly by usual blue crayon, also extras of a few plus 6c pair and single and 18c each with large "H.I." ovpt. (controversial and considered by some to be non-contemporary), also four multiples of Regular Issue stamps with violet "CANCELLED" straightlines identified with the Kahului Railroad, few flaws, Fine group
