5c Yellow Brown (205). Enormous Jumbo margins, oval duplex cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, ex Saadi, with 1990 P.F. certificate
1c Gray Blue (206). Deep rich color, bold strike of 15-Point Geometric fancy cancel, Extremely Fine strike of a most unusual cancel on a fresh and Very Fine stamp, ex Saadi, with 1990 and 2015 P.F. certificates
1c Gray Blue (206). Horizontal pair, intense shade, both with clear strike of Skull & Crossbones fancy cancel, Very Fine strikes and particularly appealing with two cancels struck in different orientations on a pair, with 2007 P.F. certificate
3c Blue Green, Double Impression (207c). Clear second impression displaced both horizontally and vertically, creating a dizzying effect, lightly cancelled by cork leaving the double impression unobscuredFINE. ONE OF ONLY THREE RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE 1881 3-CENT RE-ENGRAVED AMERICAN BANK NOTE ISSUE WITH DOUBLE IMPRESSION. A GREAT RARITY.
Most double impressions occur when the first impression is made and found to be inadequate. The paper is then put in the press a second time, when it receives the heavier impression. It is a common misconception that the weaker impression is the second one.
Our census of Scott 207c, available at our website at https://www.siegelauctions.com/census/us/scott/207c , includes only three examples -- two sound used off-cover stamps and one stamp on a cover (that stamp has faults). No others are contained in the records of The Philatelic Foundation, and we did not find any in our search of past auction catalogues.
Census no. 207c-CAN-02. With 2005 P.F. certificate. The Scott Catalogue value of $5,000.00 is very low in our opinion -- probably influenced by the on-cover stamp with faults. We have previously offered both of the sound off-cover examples and each realized at least $9,500 hammer.
3c Blue Green (207). Nicely balanced margins, Glen Allen Star fancy precancel with rim of datestamp in left margin, fresh and Very Fine, this is the only 3c Bank Note stamp we have offered with the Glen Allen Star precancel, it is normally encountered on 1c and occasionally 2c Bank Note stamps, this use on a 3c is extremely rare, with 2005 P.S.E. certificate (VF 80; specific cancels are unpriced in SMQ)
