II No. 27AS 13.9.97" double-circle datestamp and used to Jullundur, receiving backstamp, few small edge tears at top, still Very Fine, rare as none are reported from this field post office, according to Wikipedia, the Afridi tribe, which was receiving a subsidy from the government of British India for the safeguarding of the Khyber Pass, rose up and captured all the posts in the Khyber held by their own countrymen, and attacked the forts on the Samana Range near the city of Peshawar, the British mounted the expedition in October and full capitulation was not achieved until after the winter snows had cleared

THIS IS THE EARLIEST EXAMPLE OF MAIL WITH A PHILIPPINES STAMP SENT TO A NON-SPANISH OVERSEAS DESTINATION.
In 1870 the Franco-Prussian War closed the port of Marseilles, the usual route of Philippines mail to Europe. After the war some mail continued to be sent via Brindisi, usually by British P & O packet via Singapore and Suez.
