Tied by "New York A Sep. 1 12:30PM '98" duplex datestamp on spectacular multicolored Spanish-American War Patriotic souvenir postcard to Lucerne, Switzerland, upon arrival 10c and 20c Swiss Postage Dues applied and tied by Luzerne circular datestamp, U.S. stamp with trivial pre-use wrinkles and a few toned perf tips, card is immaculate with only a couple of minor corner bends, Extremely Fine and rare, one of the finest illustrated covers of the late 19th century and certainly of the Spanish-American War, this was published by H.D. Berner Co. and features a fancy scroll design in red and blue, with patriotic eagle and shield at top left, soldier firing rifle at bottom left and an ornamental wreath in blue surrounds the U.S. stamp at top right, with central slogan "Our Country, May She Ever Be Right,", ex Bleuler

Tied by cork on extremely unusual Spanish-American War Patriotic shield-shaped cardboard cover to Canal Lewisville O., the cover is a folded shield-shaped heavy card with overall red and blue flag design and armored Liberty, it served as a mailer for fabric samples which are still affixed inside, also depicts General Nelson A. Miles inside, minor wear and some toning inside from one of the fabric samples, still Very Fine and most unusual

Sep. 7 9AM '98" circular datestamp and grid duplex on illustrated Sinking of the Maine cover addressed locally, depicts Private William Anthony addressing Captain Charles Sigsbee, stating "Sir, I have to inform you that the ship has been blown up and is sinking", Very Fine, an outstanding and scarce design, Anthony is credited with heroic actions during the sinking, including finding Captain Sigsbee in the darkness and helping lead both men out to safety

Exceptional and huge balance of nearly 2,000 covers, essentially all with red and blue Patriotic designs, obviously an extremely broad range of types including some more elaborate and many overall flag designs, range of uses and destinations and also a variety of stamps, with the majority franked with 1894-98 issues, mixed condition with some sound and many with a range of faults but in an assemblage such as this plenty of quality covers will be present, overall an incredible holding put together over many decades and easily the largest we have ever encountered
