EXTREMELY FINE AND RARE MINT ENTIRE OF THE 2-CENT DIE 23 BLACK JACK ON BUFF.

The Die 23 on Buff or Orange are among the few rarest of all Black Jack entires. The UPSS Catalog states a maximum of 15 mint entires are known between Scott U48 (Buff) and U49 (Orange). Ex Venn.

Specimen Envelopes Collection. Comprehensive collection in nine large 3-ring binders plus two smaller boxes, mostly mounted on homemade exhibit pages and clearly identified by knife and issue, including manuscript "Specimen" on U27, U28, U36, U39, U44, also U39 with "Specimen" overprint, Nesbitt fourth series to 30c with some with advertising forms, 1870-74 Reay issue also well-represented as is Plimpton and Morgan issues, comprehensive group of advertising specimens, bidders samples including some with hole punches to attach to the bid form, also includes War Dept. (not including UO25, we did look!), also seven embossed Penalty Envelope essays in different colors, few faults to be expected but overall fresh and Very Fine, this is the most comprehensive collection of these that we have encountered, many were acquired from specialty dealers or auctions and this would be virtually impossible to assemble

Specialized group of items, including U26 (UPSS 52) with knife 24 instead of 20, U58S (UPSS 126 var) with unlisted working head die, U76 entire (UPSS 151) in what may be a slightly different shade, U111 (UPSS 258) in a lighter shade of blue, Die 35 ungummed on amber wove, size 10, wmk. 2, possible difference in knife depth, U152 (UPSS 349) without specimen and with return address, U187 centennial entire (U540), UPSS 851 in what looks more red than brown, one similar to UPSS 1056 but size 8 and with printed address and return address from Colis Huntington, UPSS 420a with “Canceled”, W47 unused (hinge marks), U50 unused, U194a, two Post Office Official entires with part-printed addresses, also Post Card with indicia in wrong place, also includes five Revenue battleship large multiples, few faults but overall fresh and Very Fine, an excellent group for the specialist

Postal Lettersheet Collection. Comprehensive collection on exhibit pages in two 3-ring binders, including U36 unused and used, excellent group of lettersheet style of envelopes with stamps such as Murphy patents used with 3c 1861 including one with advertising, some Bank Notes, American Bank Note Co. patent envelopes, one of the strengths of the collection is in the Grant lettersheets (U293) with proofs including one without printing and just perforations with "Omit perforations marked in red Sep. 16 1886", also ten trial color proofs including some with double entries, for the issued lettersheet the different perforations and other varieties are well-represented, few faults to be expected, overall Fine-Very Fine, a fantastic collection for the specialist with several unique items
