1847-1861 Balance. 20 stamps from an untouched old-time collection, we took these out of coffin mounts and glassines from the 1940s and arranged them on stock cards, including used Nos. 1 and 2, the rest appear to be unused including Nos. 30, 35, 36B, 37, 38, 39, 68-73, 75, 76, 77 and 78, several have what appears to be original gum or part original gum, few unused (no gum), few faults to be expected, appear Fine, an outstanding and valuable old-time holding
1851-56 Issue Balance. Old-time quadrille pages of used stamps, including Nos. 7, 9, 11, 11A, 12, 14, 15 and 17, multiple copies of most including many 1c, two No. 12, eleven of the 12c, 17 of the 10c, range of cancels including New York Ocean Mail (three on 10c), few other interesting such as 11A with part imprint, many with four margins, few faults to be expected, overall a Fine-Very Fine and desirable collection
3c 1851-56 Issue Collection. Old-time quadrille album pages containing a wonderful range of used stamps, including a fantastic group of 3c Orange Brown with different cancels including small Boston "Paid" grid struck in black and red, grids, blue town, dark red "Way 5", red grids, blue "Utica N.Y." double oval plus a few pairs, excellent selection of Dull Red and other shades of 11 and 11A with a wide range of cancels, many with four margins, few faults to be expected, many Fine-Very Fine, a great collection for the specialist
1857-60 Issue Balance. Old-time collection on quadrille pages, all denominations represented up to 30c, including several better 1c stamps such as Nos. 18, 20, 22 and 23, also with 13 of the 5c Type I and 12 of 5c Type II, 17 of the 10c including one Type I and nine Type V, 13 singles and a pair of 12c, five 24c and eight 30c, range of cancels, some faults, many Fine-Very Fine, an attractive collection with much useful duplication
1857-60 Issue with Colored Cancels. 16 items, including Nos. 20, 27, 29, 30A (2), 32, 35 with captured imprint, 36 (pair and two singles), 36B, 37 (2) and 38, cancels include blue, red grids, red "Paid" in circle on No. 36 pair, red "Supplementary Mail" on No. 37, few small faults, appear Fine-Very Fine, an attractive selection picked from an old-time collection
1c Blue, Ty. V, Accumulation and Plating (24). Extensive collection hinged to album or plating pages, more than 170 stamps including multiples, a few on piece (one with a G.B. stamp) and one on a nice Valentine cover, the partial platings feature Plate 8, mixed condition as expected for such an accumulation, lot also includes a small exhibit with 3c 1851-57 stamps (mostly perforated) featuring cancellations including some in green, some fancy, a nice little study
1861-68 Issues Balance. Old-time collection on quadrille pages, all denominations represented with many better shades, including 12 of No. 67 and sub-shades, several of No. 75 and 76, fourteen of 10c including one with captured imprint, some better grills including 12c and 15c, 20 singles and pair of 30c, seven of the 90c, some better cancels, some faults, many appear Fine-Very Fine, a fantastic and valuable old-time collection
1861-68 Issues Balance. Stamps and some proofs and essays on quadrille pages, mostly used but some unused as well, includes approximately 25 of No. 63 including a couple unused, range of shades, at least one Pink No. 64, two No. 67 or 67a, Nos. 68-72 including two 90c, Nos. 75-76, some high-denomination grills including Nos. 86-91, F Grills including 5c-15c, proofs include a few August plate proofs, 5c Black Atlanta Trial Color proof, some plate essays, also a few covers including a Very Fine appearing cover with two 24c to Hong Kong but missing a stamp, mixed condition, overall Fine
15c 1861-68 Issues, Balance (77, 91, 98). Used stamps on a single stock page, including 25 No. 77 (one in a pair) and 16 grilled Nos. 91 or 98, one No. 98 strip of three, range of cancels with a number red or blue, some varieties including large interpane margins, mixed condition and centering, several decently attractive stamps, Scott value counting all the grilled stamps as No. 98 exceeds $9,000
1869 Pictorial Issue, Used Balance. Old-time collection on quadrille pages, including fifteen of the 12c, four 15c, two 24c, five 30c, one or two Re-Issues sprinkled in, range of cancels, some faults, some Fine-Very Fine
1869 Pictorial Issue, Used Balance (113-121). Impressive used balance on a stock page with duplication, all denominations included except for 1c and 90c, including 2c, 3c (three), 6c, 10 (ten plus a pair), 12c (nine), 15c Ty. II (three), 24c (three) and 30c (eight plus a pair), wide range of cancels including red and blue, some other better including Hiogo, Japan on 10c, stars, red foreign mail leaf, targets, others, mixed condition with faults or centering issues on many, the 30c pair is faded, still an attractive and colorful balance with many useful stamps, Scott value exceeds $10,000 without any cancel premiums
Bank Note Issues Collection. Comprehensive old-time collection on quadrille pages, mostly arranged by denomination, nice showing of National Bank Note Co. with grilled and ungrilled represented, including an excellent showing of better denominations such as 24c, 30c and 90c with major duplication, nice showing of later issues such as No. 218 (8 singles and a pair), also includes a few later issues such as used Columbians to 30c, excellent range of cancels with few fancy, some faults, many Fine-Very Fine, this was painstakingly assembled over many years and is a rare opportunity to acquire a significant holding of these issues
Bank Note Issues Balance. 16 stamps from an old-time collection which appear to be unused, including Nos. 145-154, 156, 157, 159, 161, 162 and 163, mostly no gum, some with what appears to be original gum or slightly disturbed gum, some faults to be expected, still a Fine appearing group
Bank Note Grilled Issue Balance. All denominations except for 24c represented, the better denominations either faults or potentially fake grills, still a Fine appearing group from an old-time collection
Bank Note Issues, Choice Certified Used Balance (153/219). Six used stamps, five are P.S.E. graded including Nos. 153 (85), 184 (98), 206 (95J), 209 (95) and 229 (80J), also a beautiful ungraded No. 162 with natural straight edge and a red NYFM cancel, overall a fresh and Extremely Fine group, total SMQ value for the five graded stamps is $1,455
1870-88 Bank Notes Issues, Collection. Used stamps mounted on album pages, large number assembled to show cancellations, plate flaws and varieties, better cancel colors including red, purple, magenta, ultramarine and orange, railroad cancels, captured plate nos. and part imprints, varieties include pre-printing creases, offsets, position arrows, ribbed paper, double transfers, color changelings, etc., mixed condition but overall a colorful and interesting collection which succeeds in going beyond the run-of-the-mill
3c Vermilion (214). Old Economist Stamp Co. album containing nearly 400 used singles, pairs, strips and also block of four, assembled by Dr. Holland A. Davis (who wrote the monograph on the issue), range of cancels including towns, duplexes, others, mixed condition, still an interesting and valuable holding, Scott value in excess of $18,000
Washington-Franklin Issues, Blocks. 15 blocks, including blocks of four of Nos. 379, 380 (2), 381 (2), 382, 407, 466, 469, 475, 476, 518, also plate block of six of 518, 534A center line block of 16 and 534A top plate block of ten, some stamps Mint N.H., overall a fresh and Fine-Very Fine group, Scott value approximately
Washington-Franklin Issues, Balance. Stock page of unused singles and pairs with a few coils, including Nos. 341, 342, 381 (pair), 421, 422 (2), 423, 440 (2), 500 (2), 518, also a few non-Washingon-Franklin such as 404, 479 and 480, some Mint N.H., Fine-Very Fine group
Washington-Franklin Issues, Used Graded Balance. Eight choice used singles or pairs, all graded by P.S.E. and one by the P.F., including Nos. 393 (95), 405 (98), 409 plate no. single (100J), 413 (90J), 453 (P.F. 90), 490 pair (95), 497 pair (90) and 517 (95), fresh and Extremely Fine Gem balance, total SMQ as all P.S.E. graded is $1,675
Washington-Franklin Issues, Balance. 46 items on dealer's pages, including Nos. 339, 357, 369 (used), 381, 414, 420, 472, 515-518, few coils, few pairs such as 532, many Mint N.H., overall fresh and Fine-Very Fine with a few Extremely Fine
Washington-Franklin Issues, Collection. Substantial collection on album pages, lots of duplication because the collector loved shades, largely complete for the sheet stamps less the rarities of course, coils are present as singles, pairs and line pairs, with the normal degree of fakes present for the Perf 12 coils, lot also includes Panama-Pacific complete except not including No. 404, with a plate block of No. 398, Offices in China set as well, condition is decent with some flaws to be found, overall Fine-Very Fine and worthwhile collection with duplication of many, a number of certificates accompany
Washington-Franklin Coils, Balance. Numerous coils on Richard Champagne sales cards, mostly Mint N.H. pairs and line pairs, Scott numbers include Nos. 390, 411, 443, 450, 452, 455, 457, 489, 490, 492, 495, most with decent amount of duplication, fresh and Very Fine balance
Imperforate Coils, Balance. Extensive balance from the Richard Champagne stock, most are strips larger than a pair with some much larger multiples, mostly Mint N.H., Scott Nos. include 343-344, 347, 383-384, 408-409, most with significant duplication, fresh and Very Fine, rarely seen in this quantity, lot also includes numerous strips of Nos. 408-409 and 482 with Schermack Ty. III perforations, also Very Fine
8c-24c 1918-24 Air Post (C2-C6). Accumulation of unused singles and blocks on stock pages, C2 includes eight blocks of four, a block of seven, block of eight and three pairs, C3 includes five blocks of four, blocks of seven and eight, two pairs and a single, C4 with block of eight and two pairs, C5 with two pairs, C6 with two blocks of twelve, eight, six (2), four (2) and single, many stamps Mint N.H., few perf separations here and there, Fine-Very Fine group
Air Post Balance. 14 stamps, all but one Air Post, including Nos. C4 (5), C5, C6, C18 (6), last is 5c Pan-American, few small faults, overall Very Fine
1930-33 Graf Zeppelin Air Post Balance. Eight Mint N.H. items, including C13 top left corner selvage pair, top selvage strip of three and pair, single $2.60 (nibbed perf at right), two pairs and two singles of C18, rich colors, Fine-Very Fine group, Scott value as singles
Air Post and Special Delivery Plate Blocks Balance. Album pages of plate blocks, including Nos. C4, C7-C12, C16-C36 and also some later, also includes some Special Delivery such as E12, E13, E14-E23, many Mint N.H., overall fresh and Fine-Very Fine
Special Delivery Balance (E1/E11). 15 unused stamps with some duplication including Nos. E2, E3 and E5, mostly original gum with some regummed including an E2, mixed centering and some faults to be expected, Fine or appear so with a few Very Fine, one No. E3 with 2005 P.S.E. certificate
1879-1956 Postage Dues, Unused Collection (J1/J87). Largely complete collection mounted on album pages, missing only the Special Printings and a handful of the scarcer issues, some earlier stamps show a range of gum condition including disturbed, some later are Mint N.H., some faults will be encountered but overall a Fine-Very Fine appearing collection, six certificates accompany
Officials, Unused Collection (O1/O126). Nearly complete collection mounted on album pages, missing the dollar State Dept. stamps and a couple others, unused with a range of original gum, disturbed gum, no gum and regummed, slightly mixed condition with faults to be expected on many of the better stamps but many are sound and Fine-Very Fine as well, overall a worthwhile unused collection
Officials Collection. From the Champagne stock, stamps hinged on album pages, a mix of unused and used, for each Department a page of unused with a high degree of completion is present and then a page or pages of used, the unused includes each department's top value except for the State Dept. dollar values, mix of gum condition with plenty of original gum, typical centering for these but we note a number Very Fine, overall an attractive collection
Newspapers & Periodicals Balance. Mostly unused stamps mounted on album pages, includes a range with five large-format stamps (one defective), 1875 issue with mix of unused and used including original gum Nos. PR12, PR15, PR19 and PR21, 1879 high values are all Specimen overprints, smattering of later issues and two sets of the watermarked 1895-97 issue, mixed condition with faults to be expected, some misidentified on the pages and some of the last punch cancels, mostly Fine or Fine appearance
Franklin & Eagle Carriers Balance. Group including Franklin Carrier No. LO3 Reprint block of ten, LO1TC, album pages with more than 25 Franklin Reprints, Eagle Carrier with block of four and several singles including perforated No. LO6, few other items as well as Greig's City Despatch Post No. 40L1, overall Fine-Very Fine
