90c Interior (O24). Mint N.H. bottom imprint and plate no. 108 block of 16 with selvage at left, brilliant color, wonderfully well-centeredVERY FINE-EXTREMELY FINE. AN INCOMPARABLY RARE MINT NEVER-HINGED PLATE BLOCK OF THE 90-CENT 1873 INTERIOR DEPARTMENT ISSUE IN THE FINEST CONDITION ATTAINABLE. THIS IS THE FIRST WE HAVE OFFERED SINCE KEEPING COMPUTERIZED RECORDS.
A Power Search review failed to locate a single plate block offered in our auctions since 1993 and our Rarities sales since 1964, in any gum condition. To find this with Mint N.H. gum and in this fresh condition adds to its rarity and desirability. This plate block has not been offered in the auction market for more than 50 years.
With 2018 P.S.E. certificate. Unlisted in Scott as a Mint N.H. plate block. Scott Retail for 16 Mint N.H. singles is $11,200.00 but does not remotely do justice to this outstanding piece
7c Treasury (O76). Wide margins and near perfect centering, rich color, light face-free cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, a superb used example of this issue, with 2018 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; SMQ $325.00), this is the highest grade awarded and it is shared by only one other
3c Agriculture, Soft Paper (O95). Mint N.H., glowing color, nice centering and margins, fresh and Very Fine, with 2016 P.F. certificate (VF 80)
90c Treasury, Soft Paper (O113). Original gum, centered to top left, small thin spot at right from hinge removal, Very Good appearing example of this rare stamp, a Power Search review demonstrates how few of these exist in sound condition, this is a presentable example
Fancy and Fort Cancels on War Department Officials. Group of 26, better cancels include Kicking Mule on 6c (O117), "E" in Wreath on 1c (O83) and Honeycomb on 3c (O116), both of Fort Leavenworth, Indian head on 6c (O117), plus numerous Forts such as Snelling (Minn), Grant (Ariz), Sill (Ind), Thomas (Kan), Leavenworth (Kan), Custer (Mont), Apache (Ariz) and more, some small faults to be expected, generally Fine-Very Fine strikes
