Providence, Rhode Island, 5c & 10c Gray Black, Se-Tenant (10X2a). Complete sheet of twelve, original gum, lightly hinged at top and bottom, light corner crease at top right and some minor margin wrinkling/bending at right
VERY FINE ORIGINAL-GUM SHEET OF THE PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, POSTMASTER'S PROVISIONAL.
Unlike many others, this sheet has complete gum which covers all the stamps.
5c Red Brown (1). Three full margins to huge at left with bit of adjoining stamp, rich color, intermediate impression, unusual small red circle of dots cancel, Very Fine, ex Matthies and Saadi
5c Red Brown (1). Large margins to touched, intermediate impression, bold blue numeral cancel, vertical crease, appears Fine
5c Red Brown (1). Detailed early impression and deep rich color, light red grid cancel, Fine, with 2024 P.F. certificate
5c Red Brown (1). Full margins to ample, intermediate impression, tied by red grid on blue piece, matching Boston integral-rate circular datestamp, Very Fine, with 2008 P.S.E. certificate
5c Dark Brown (1a). Horizontal pair, unused (no gum), large margins at sides, in at top and bottom, early impression and dark First Printing shade, Fine, a scarce unused pair of the Dark Brown shade, with 1990 P.F. certificate, Scott value as original-gum pair $21,000, Scott value as no gum singles $4,800
10c Black (2). Huge margins all around, crisp impression on blued paper, neat strike of blue circular datestamp cancel
EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB USED EXAMPLE OF THE 10-CENT 1847 ISSUE.
Ex Morton. With 2013 P.F. and 2014 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95).
10c Black (2). Large margins to full including part of adjoining stamp at top, light strike of blue cancel, faint corner crease at top left entirely in margin, Very Fine appearance, with clear 1984 P.F. certificate
10c Black, Double Transfer Ty. A, C (2-A, 2-C). Positions 1-2R1, horizontal pair showing two different double transfers, left stamp Ty. A double transfer in "X" at lower right, right stamp Ty. C double transfer in both "X" and in bottom frameline, ample margins to in at top but clearly showing the characteristics of the double transfers at bottom, red grid cancels and affixed to a piece (did not originate on the piece), Very Good, an extremely rare pair of the 10c 1847 showing two different double transfers, ex Mirsky, with 1998 P.F. certificate, Scott value as singles
10c Black (2). Positions 98-100R1, horizontal strip of three, huge margins to clear including part of adjoining stamp at left, each with manuscript squiggle cancel that has been removed, right stamp expert repair at bottom described on older certificate as small tear and horizontal crease, Very Fine appearance, a rare strip of three of the 10c 1847 Issue, 1976 P.F. certificate no longer accompanies, Scott value $10,000 as a strip (disregarding removed pen cancel)
