$10,000.00 Carmine, "Series 1953" Ovpt. (R653). Serial no. 341, rich color and detailed impression, wide margins, 8/17/53 manuscript cancel with initialsEXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL AND RARE EXAMPLE OF THE $10,000.00 "SERIES 1953" DOCUMENTARY ISSUE, CANCELLED SOLELY BY A MANUSCRIPT MARKING. A GREAT RARITY.
The higher the denomination, the more likely the stamp is to be cancelled by a device designed to prevent its reuse, such as perf initials or a cut cancel. We are aware of two others similarly cancelled -- serial nos. 339 and 340 -- which were used on the same day and bear the same signature as the example offered here. It is interesting to note that, based on the straight edges, the stamp offered here comes from a different sheet than the other two.
