NEW BRUNSWICK, 1851, 1sh Dull Violet (4; SG 6). Nearly full original gum (characteristic thinly applied gum), large margins nearly all around, incredibly fresh overall, with deep luxuriant color and a sharp impression, just the slightest trace of hinge thin spotEXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. AN ESPECIALLY HANDSOME ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THIS CLASSIC RARITY.

NEWFOUNDLAND, 1857, 5p Brown Violet (5; SG 5). Single and exceptionally rare horizontal strip of three, all with large to ample margins, deep rich color, tied by oval grid cancels on 1858 blue folded cover to Sydney, C.B. (Cape Breton, Nova Scotia), red rimless "St. John's, Newfoundland MY 31, 1858" circular datestamp to left of stamps, manuscript directive "per Steamer" and red crayon "1/4", Port Sydney backstamp, two light vertical file folds, one passes thru center stamp in stripVERY FINE. A STUNNING AND HIGHLY EXHIBITABLE COVER WITH WHAT IS BELIEVED TO BE THE HIGHEST PENCE-ISSUE FRANKING EXTANT. IT IS ALSO THE EARLIEST KNOWN USE OF THE 5-PENCE STAMP.

NIGER COAST PROTECTORATE, 1897, 2p Lake, Watermark Reversed (SG 68x). Bottom left corner selvage block of twelve, slightly mount disturbed original gum, exceptionally fresh color on bright white paper, well-centered overall, Very Fine, a remarkable multiple of this scarce watermark variety of which only one sheet was discovered per Nelson, SG £1,560 as singles
PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, 1870, 3p Blue on White Paper, Horizontal Pair, Imperforate Vertically (6d; SG 30a). Mint N.H. complete pane of 30, few minor hinge marks in selvage only, entirely imperforate between fourth and fifth columns, bold color on bright paper, couple minor gum skips on normal stampsFINE. AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE NEVER-HINGED COMPLETE PANE OF THE 3-PENCE ON WHITE PAPER WITH SIX IMPERFORATE-BETWEEN PAIRS.

Group of five values including 32c high value, each affixed to card stock cut from the archives with small black "CANCELLED" overprint, few small faults, mostly slightly toned perfsFINE AND UNIQUE GROUP OF THE STRAITS SETTLEMENTS 1867 FIRST ISSUE WITH "CANCELLED" SPECIMEN OVERPRINTS FROM THE DE LA RUE ARCHIVES.

Vertical block of eight with wing margin and interpanneau gutter margin at right, Positions 29-30/35-36/41-42/47-48, original gum, top pair lightly hinged, bottom pair h.r., center four stamps Mint N.H., the scarce Type F (SG C) showing interesting broken top of "1", light horizontal bend thru third horizontal pair and small adhesion on Position 2VERY FINE AND IMPRESSIVE MULTIPLE CONTAINING THREE TYPES OF THE 1880 10-CENT ON 30-CENT SURCHARGE.
Multiples of this issue are very rare. The surcharge was done in a setting of 60, and the panes were guillotined to adapt to the overprint setting as indicated by the cut interpanneau margin at right.
