VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE COMPLETE SHEET OF 35 OF THE 1934 PHILIPPINES FAR EASTERN CHAMPIONSHIP BASKETBALL ISSUE, CONTAINING 14 PAIRS OF THE IMPERFORATE HORIZONTALLY ERROR.
This is only the fourth example of this error we have offered since 1993, as well as the only multiple.
Scott value as 14 hinged error pairs without premium for the additional seven stamps or the lack of hinging on 13 of the pairs.

Straight edge at left (all examples of No. 463 must have a straight-edge), circular datestamp cancel, Fine, Economist Stamp Co. backstamp, the census compiled by Geoffrey Brewster in Possessions records only seven unused and six used, despite the similar level of rarity between unused and used, Scott prices the used at half the unused

Clear strikes of Manila circular datestamp cancels, toning along right edge not mentioned on accompanying certificate, Fine appearance, despite the only slightly higher Scott value for used, this issue is much rarer in used condition than unused, a Power Search review failed to locate another used example apart from the one on the cover offered in our 2024 Rarities sale (lot 4299), the online records of The Philatelic Foundation do not list any used examples, only 300 were overprinted and it is obvious that very few were actually sent on a cover, with 2024 P.F. certificate

Complete Mint N.H. left pane of 50 with top and bottom imprint and plate no. 22620 blocks of six, arrow at right and half arrows at top and bottom left, deep rich color, typical gum skips or bends and tiny adherence on one stamp, Very Fine and rare, fewer than ten full panes are recorded (40 panes were issued), Scott Retail as hinged plate blocks and Mint N.H. singles (Mint N.H. plate block unpriced in Scott)

Philippines, Stamps Balance. Valuable group of singles and some booklet panes on stock cards, unused and some used, a number of better Scott numbers including 12 "Victory" ovpts., Air Post, Special Delivery, group of Postage Due "Victory" ovpts., few of the typical faults or gum issues but overall good condition, Fine balance, seven older certificates accompany, Scott value exceeds $12,000
Philippines, Official Business Overprint Forerunners Collection. Two stockbooks loaded with hundreds of off-cover mostly used stamps (some unused), many are on U.S. ovpt. stamps and also many Philippines 1906 and later issues, including some higher denominations and Back-of-Book issues, numerous handstamped styles are present, including worded in different ways and "O.B.", varieties with colors, inverted, sizes, different angles, etc., some are handstamped on back by early experts such as Colman, Colson or Bartels, many are on pieces with official mail penalty wording, no doubt some flaws will be encountered but overall fresh, a fascinating collection of the early forerunners to the Official Business stamps, worth careful review
Philippines Customs Fee Balance. Three items, including Warren 891B, 893Ba, last is receipt, some faults, still appear Fine, scarce group
Philippines Better Postal Cards. Six unused postal cards, Nos. UX3, UX4, UX8 and UX20-UX22, the UX3 with "'La Yebana' Cigar Factory Manila" handstamp and photo on back, UX4 few light toned spots, Fine-Very Fine group
U.S. Possessions Sheets. Folder of more than 40 complete sheets or panes, mostly Philippines with Scott numbers in the range of 319-430, also includes No. 464 affixed to interleaving (Scott value more than $1,200 as hinged), also a few Back-of-Book, one set of Ryukyu sheets (Nos. 224-228) and about ten AMG Germany, mostly Mint N.H. but the nature of Philippines temperatures means some may not be, overall Very Fine
Philippines, Stationery Balance. Four envelopes of entires or postal cards, each labeled with contents and most with 2015 Scott values, first envelope Nos. U1-U16 unused with some duplication for sizes, second U17-U27 unused with duplication for sizes, third envelope with some better including used UX8 (Scott value $1,000), unused UX7, UX22, several others in the low hundreds of dollars values, fourth envelope with six different Spanish Philippines postal cards with U.S. 2c Bureau stamps affixed, military station duplex cancels and sent to Switzerland (1898), overall a fresh and Very Fine group, Scott value for the items that are Scott-priced exceeds $4,000
