Sale 1290, Lot 1752, Revenues8c on 2c Blue, Playing Cards, Inverted Surcharge (RF16a). Vermilion surcharge, bold "4-1-1919 U.S.P.C.Co." (U.S. Playing Card Co.) two-line cancel, few faults including creases and thinning

FINE APPEARANCE. ONE OF ONLY TWO KNOWN EXAMPLES OF THIS INVERTED SURCHARGE, SCOTT RF16a.

The other known example is ex Cunliffe and Dr. Schauss. With 1977 P.F. certificate.

Playing Cards Collection. Phenomenal and comprehensive collection on exhibit pages and in binders, the exhibit portion won several Gold awards and Revenue Association special mentions, it includes pages devoted to many different playing card companies with samples of cards and stamps used by that company, other sections include cancellation studies, printing varieties such as imperf between, surcharge varieties with some inverted, plate blocks or plate strips, RF4 unused, eagle design block, also nice selection of wrappers with Red Cross and some tax free, apart from the exhibit there are approximately 20 decks of cards with some still sealed, two RF28 panes of 100, some Private Die Playing Cards, eight stock books binders with stock pages with a wide range of items, some faults to be expected, many Fine-Very Fine, a wonderful holding that would provide many hours of research for even the most ardent specialist

Two boxes filled with all kinds of revenues, 19th century, 20th century, tax paids (listed and unlisted), on document, multiples and more, we note many medium-priced items mixed in with more common material, but much is disorganized, so better things may turn up, mixed condition, overall a worthwhile accumulation

R6c and R24c, also a large accumulation of additional R6c that is generally sorted by date but stamps have fallen out and need to be re-sorted -- might yield one or more additional complete calendars, other albums are balances from First Issue thru later, overall Fine with a huge number of stamps
