CANAL ZONE, 1925, 2c Carmine, "Canal" Only Ovpt. (84a). With top selvage, lightly hinged, rich color, choice centeringEXTREMELY FINE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE "CANAL" ONLY VARIETY. ONLY TWENTY WERE PRINTED.
This variety was created when the sheet was shifted downwards during overprinting. 180 stamps bear the "Zone Canal" variety. Only twenty were printed with "Canal" only. It is believed the bottom panes were destroyed.
Ex Laila. With 1993 and 2006 P.F. certificates, the former as a pair with Scott No. 84b
