VERY FINE APEARANCE. ONLY TWO COVERS ARE RECORDED BEARING FOUR EXAMPLES OF THE NEWFOUNDLAND 1857 ONE-PENCE STAMPS, AND THIS IS THE EARLIER OF THE TWO.

Prices Current were charged the packet letter rate up until October 1, 1857. After this date, printed letters without any other writing were treated as newspapers and came under the regulations of the Colonial bookpost. The printed circular rate of 1d comes from this regulation.

VERY FINE APEARANCE. THIS IS REPORTED TO BE THE ONLY RECORDED USE OF THE FIVE-PENCE CHOCOLATE BROWN USED INTERNALLY TO PAY THE DOUBLE RATE.
