2c Carmine (554). Mint N.H. top plate no. 16787 block of six with 6-point star and full selvage, brilliant color, post-office fresh and intactVERY FINE AND CHOICE MINT NEVER-HINGED TOP PLATE BLOCK OF THE 2-CENT 1923 ISSUE WITH 6-POINT STAR.
In an attempt to improve centering, the Bureau began using plates with wider spacing between the stamps. However, to take advantage of this, they had to modify some of the perforating machines. Stars were added to some of the wider-spaced plates for rapid identification of those sheets bound for the modified perforating machines. At first, a small 5-point star was used, then a large 6-point star and, finally, a large 5-point star. The latter is common, but the other two are very scarce.

3c Nebr. Ovpt., Vertical Pair, Wide Spacing and Stretched Ovpts. (672 var). Top left plate no. 18803 block of six, bottom four stamps Mint N.H., spacing between the ovpts. in the bottom block of four approximately normal (23mm), wide spacing between overprints in the top block of four (32mm), the middle two stamps also showing a pronounced stretched overprint, measuring taller than the overprints on the bottom pair (3.5mm vs. 3 mm), Very Fine, a rare and fascinating multiple showing two different varieties, the wide spacing occurred due to misregistration between the stamp printing plates and the overprinting plates, causing the wider blank area intended for the gutter to appear inside the pane, hand-wheel adjustments by the pressman while the overprinting was in process account for the stretched or elongated letters, with 2017 P.S.E. certificate stating that all four of the top stamps show a stretched overprint. (but it is much more evident on the middle pair than on the top pair)
