Scott Retail with no premium for the centerline. Especially desirable with three different types of recuts -- the recut only at bottom occurs on eight positions.
1c Blue, Ty. IV (23). Position 5R1L, recut once at bottom (only eight such recuts on plate), with double transfer, rich color, face-free strike of circular datestampEXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 PERFORATED ONE-CENT TYPE IV. SCARCE WITH SUCH CHOICE CENTERING.
This position produced the scarce imperforate Type Ib on the early state of the plate.

Position 7R1L, the recut state of the rare Type I from Plate 1 Early, recut once at bottom (only eight such recuts on plate), perfs in but still shows top with Type I characteristics, tied by "Richmond Va. Jan., 1858" circular datestamp on printed produce notice, Fine, the perforated examples of Position 7R1L are exceedingly scarce, this is the only example on cover we have offered since keeping computerized records and it is also only the third in any form contained in Power Search

Position 72L1L, recut once at top, double transfer at bottom, light red cancel leaves most of design and double transfer clearly visible, deep shade, choice centeringEXTREMELY FINE. A RARE USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 ONE-CENT PERFORATED TYPE IV WITH DOUBLE TRANSFER. ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE WITH THIS CHOICE CENTERING AND LIGHT RED CANCELLATION.

This stamp is especially desirable because it shows the surface cracks in the printing plate -- these are not evident in the early state of the plate.
