Bottom imprint and plate no. strips of five, original gum, lightly hinged, bright colors, natural gum wrinkles, 3c small thin spotVERY FINE APPEARANCE. A SCARCE SET OF IMPERFORATE IMPRINT AND PLATE NUMBER STRIPS OF FIVE OF THE 1895 WATERMARKED BUREAU ISSUE, WHICH IS COMPLETE TO THE 5-CENT VALUE.

Our census of Scott 272a records only 66 copies, most of which were used. The variety was created when the stock of paper intended for use on revenue stamps was inadvertently used for regular-issue stamps. Scott Retail as single watermark error

This block comes from the fifteen Plate 76 rows that produced only Type I stamps.

In our opinion, the Scott values for Bureau plate multiples do not reflect their true rarity.
$5.00 Dark Green (278). Choice margins and precise centering, unusually light registry oval cancelEXTREMELY FINE GEM. THE 1895 BUREAU DOLLAR VALUES ARE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND IN THIS ULTRA-HIGH GRADE, ESPECIALLY WITH A LIGHT CANCELLATION.
