$2.00 Bright Blue (262). Original gum, lightly hinged, exceptional Jumbo margins and essentially perfect centering, gorgeous color on bright paperEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB LIGHTLY-HINGED JUMBO MARGINED EXAMPLE OF THE 1894 $2.00 UNWATERMARKED BUREAU ISSUE, WHICH HAS BEEN GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 JUMBO BY P.S.E. -- THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED AND THE ONLY TO ACHIEVE IT.
The 1894 unwatermarked issue was the first U.S. stamp issue printed by the Bureau of Engraving & Printing. This issue is notoriously difficult to find well-centered, as production was marred by initial problems as the Bureau feverishly worked to satisfy the public demand for stamps. The $2.00 is one of the rarest of the set in original-gum condition with choice centering. This Jumbo-margined example is truly exceptional.
With 2014 P.S.E. certificate (OGph, XF-Superb 95 Jumbo; SMQ $8,150.00 as 95, unpriced in any higher grade). This is the highest grade awarded and it is shared by no others (three are graded 95).
$2.00 Bright Blue (262). Bottom imprint and plate no. 84 strip of three, natural crackly original gum, right perfs close to barely in, Very Good, a very rare imprint and plate number multiple, since only one full plate block is believed to exist (ex MLG, Siegel Sale 971), this is the only format reasonably available to plate block collectors

15c Dark Blue (274). Bottom imprint and plate no. 52 block of six, original gum, very lightly hinged, deep rich color on fresh paper, gorgeous centering with wide marginsEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A RARE PLATE BLOCK OF THE 1895 15-CENT WATERMARKED BUREAU ISSUE -- AMONG THE FINEST KNOWN.
The 15c was printed from two plates -- numbers 52 and 264. The latter has a different style of imprint. As an indication of rarity, the last examples we sold from either plate were in our 2009 Whitpain sale (top plate block, disturbed original gum) and before that in our 1988 Rarities sale. The example offered here is a true condition rarity combining color, centering and freshness
