Sale 1017, Lot 493, 3c 1857-60 (Scott 25-26A)3c Rose, Ty. I (25). Positions 1-2/11-12R7, block of four with top left corner interpane selvage and centerline, unusually wide perforations at top, rich color, cancelled by neat penstrokes, couple light creases and tiny pinpoint thin speck bottom right stamp

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE CORNER-MARGIN BLOCK OF THE 1857 3-CENT PERFORATED TYPE I STAMP.

The wide spacing of the perforations at top are very unusual. Blocks of this stamp are exceedingly rare, as is demonstrated by the fact that two pairs catalogues only $600.00. This is the only used corner margin block we have encountered.

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 3-CENT TYPE IV. THIS REMARKABLE STAMP HAS THE WIDEST MARGINS WE HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED ON THIS TYPE.

The 3c 1857 Type IV stamps printed from Plates 10 and 11 are notorious for poor centering and tight margins, especially at top and bottom. This extraordinary exception to the rule is the finest example we have encountered.
