5c Brown (1). Unused (no gum), beautiful early impression in a deep dark shade we consider Dark Brown (Scott 1a), essentially balanced margins all around, outstanding color on nicely blued paperEXTREMELY FINE. A LOVELY UNUSED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE FROM AN EARLY IMPRESSION.

5c Red Brown (1). Position 100L with large bottom right corner interpane margins, 3mm at right and 10-1/2mm at bottom, full to large margins other sides, bright color and detailed early impression, neat strike of red grid cancel, very faint manuscript offset on back from address, small corner creases at bottom of sheet margin are 10mm from the design and therefore inconsequentialVERY FINE AND CHOICE CORNER-MARGIN COPY OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE.
Position 100 in the left pane has the guide dot at left slightly lower than the corresponding position in the right pane. From our 2002 Rarities sale and with 2002 P.F. certificate.
5c Blackish Brown (1a var). Extremely intense and dark color, worn-plate impression, full to large margins including portion of adjoining stamp at bottom, black grid cancel, Very Fine and choice, with 1997 P.F. certificate stating "Genuine, Scott 1a, Blackish Brown in the family of Ridgway's Dark Van Dyke Brown"
5c Red Orange (1c). Large margins to ample at bottom, brilliant color, worn-plate impression, bold strike of red New York square grid cancelVERY FINE AND CHOICE. A BEAUTIFUL USED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE IN THE SCARCE RED ORANGE SHADE.

10c Black (2). Positions 10/20R1, vertical pair, full to large margins all around, sharp impression, neat red grid cancelsEXTREMELY FINE. AN OUTSTANDING VERTICAL PAIR OF THE 10-CENT 1847 ISSUE -- EXTREMELY RARE IN THIS SUPERB CONDITION.

10c Black (2). Positions 41-45L1, horizontal strip of five with left sheet margin, other sides full margins to just in between second and third stamps, beautiful "paint red" grid cancels of Mobile Ala., second stamp from left faint vertical crease, long scissors-cut between fourth and fifth stamps extends from bottom nearly to top (into frameline of fourth stamp) and is reinforced with a hingeVERY FINE. AN OUTSTANDING LARGE MULTIPLE OF THE 10-CENT 1847 ISSUE, WITH THE ADDED FEATURE OF "PAINT RED" MOBILE ALABAMA GRID CANCELS. A GREAT RARITY.
Any multiple of the 10c 1847 larger than a pair is rare and strips of four or more are extremely rare. This strip of five is one of the most outstanding off-cover multiples of the issue.
