10c Black (2). Positions 98-100R1, horizontal strip of three, huge margins to clear including part of adjoining stamp at left, each with manuscript squiggle cancel, right stamp expert repair at bottom described on accompanying certificate as small tear and horizontal creaseVERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE USED STRIP OF THREE OF THE 10-CENT 1847 ISSUE.
Pairs or two singles would often be used on double 10c rate covers, but strips of three, blocks of four or other large multiples were infrequently used. As an indication of the rarity of 10c 1847 multiples larger than a pair, Scott assigns a value of $2,600.00 for a pair, but $10,00.00 for a strip of three.
This strip undoubtedly originated on a 30c Via Panama rate cover. The same type of manuscript cancellation is found on the 10c strip of three on cover offered in our Sale 1023 as lot 2259.
Ex Mirsky. With 1976 P.F. certificate. Scott Retail as a strip, disregarding pen cancel
