"Issued 1861" on back, Extremely Fine and undoubtedly the finest example of this rare Specimen 1861 stamp extant, with 1953 P.F. certificate identifying the stamp as Lilac -- Lilac is not a Scott-listed shade of No. 70, this appears to be No. 78 Lilac, perhaps there was confusion at the time this Specimen was listed, we are following the current Scott Catalogue, but we recommend the editors change the listing to No. 78S

II and the 1c and 4c are the colors of the 1898 Issue, original gum except some lower values to the 10c no gum, some higher values Mint N.H., all overprints carefully placed horizontally toward the bottoms of the stamps to avoid obliterating the portraits, also incl. $1.00 Ty. I with Double "Specimen" Ovpt., our guess is that the person applying the overprint was not satisfied with the placement of the first one at the bottom of the bust, so another was struck in the right margin reading down and can clearly be seen, a most unusual variety, Fine-Very Fine
